Folklore having
been in circulation for many years. Some Folklore are passed down from
generation to generation. Many people think that these are false stories and
are just told for fun. However that’s not the case. People tell these folklore’s
because it represents who they are, their culture and ancestors. It’s all about
their identity. Everyone learns about each other by these folklores. It’s an
easier way to learn about people’s cultures and their ancestor’s legend. However folklore
isn't always based on the past, since there is constant developing and change
in what humans do. There are many ways folklore can be communicated. I
think the best way is in music. Everyone can relate was music. They do say that
music is the universal language. We might get some insight on folklore in
school, but we really learn these folklore from each other according to Sims. I
like the example of sending the chain email to all the people on your address
book. As a kid I would send the chain message to everyone because I was scared
of the outcome if I didn’t send it. However as I grew up I’ve noticed that
these chain mails aren’t true and there isn’t going to be any bad outcome if I don’t
send it out. There might still be people who believe in the chain message and
still send them out. All these folklore are going to be kept alive because of
the people that keep on tell them.
Marcos I find your idea of communicating folklores through music to be quite interesting. I never really saw it that way, but I agree that it is a great way to tell folklores. Sims tells the reader that folklores are a way of showing a person's identity and what better way to know about someone other than through their music. Musicians usually base their songs on their lives. Take Taylor Swift for example. Most of her songs are about her relationships. They give us a small insight to her life, just like folklores do.
