Everyone has been a trickster once in their life. Sometimes it's funny but sometimes some pranks or jokes can be cruel and mean. In Raven the Trickster the raven goes out and tricks the DEQ just for the fun of it because he doesn't get nothing from it except a laugh. However I think that the whale getting killed was the raven's fault. The raven calls the whale to shore and that gave time for the Alaskan Natives to spear and kill the whale. When the raven comes out of the whale scaring the Alaskan Natives it was something done to benefit the raven. In the future the raven might get some his own medicine and get tricked. In The Wolf and The Mink there are a few tricks between the mink and the wolf. The Mink tried to trick the fishes into coming closer to him but they didn't fall for it. However the Mink won because he caught  two fishes from the school of fishes. The Mink bragged about having food. He didn't share none of it with the wolf. The mink fell asleep and the wolf ate the fishes. The wolf tricked him by putting the bones of the fish in his mouth. The wolf did this to get back at the mink for not sharing. This whole thing was pay back to the mink.

In American Born Chinese the Monkey King wanted everyone to respect him by the way he looked. The Monkey King went into his cave for a long time and master some power that would make him superior and everyone would have to respect him no matter what. "Everything that goes up most come down." His power wasn't going to last forever. His creator came back to give him a reality check and for him to stop acting like someone he isn't. The Monkey King was born from a rock and he was buried under rocks. This comes to show that you should forget where you come from.

I don't read comic books at all, so it was a good experience reading through the comic book not just looking at the pictures only . This comic book "The Sandman " by Neil Gaiman was something I had to read a second time. At first I was interested in trying to figure out the meaning of the pictures  than what the words meant. Comic books are meant for entertainment. There's a type of comic book for everyone. The most read ones are the Marvel comic books. In this comic book all the characters were put under a spell so they won't dream or have nightmares. These people just slept throughout the whole day. This makes me think that dreaming and nightmares are important to us. When having a nightmare people tend to wake up scared , but once woken up they notice it was just a nightmare and they are okay. This gives us a sense of realism. The characters were asleep for decades because they didn't have nothing to take them back to the real world.

Legends have been told for many years, however some legends are modify to fit the audience. Since some are told orally things can be retold differently and there's a new legends created. Native Americans had their own traditions. Society might see their tradition weird now, since time has changed. Native American's used nature to their advantage. Medicine, stories, protection, etc. It's important for legends to be retold because we don't want these stories to die out. These legends that are retold in the reading were very interesting. The one I liked the most was "When Grizzlies Walked Upright" it talks about how the Mount Shasta was created. Also how birds, fish, trees, and plants. Overall how nature was created. This legend might be important to them because they care and use nature in many ways.

Folklore having been in circulation for many years. Some Folklore are passed down from generation to generation. Many people think that these are false stories and are just told for fun. However that’s not the case. People tell these folklore’s because it represents who they are, their culture and ancestors. It’s all about their identity. Everyone learns about each other by these folklores. It’s an easier way to learn about people’s cultures and their ancestor’s legend.  However folklore isn't always based on the past, since there is constant developing and change in what humans do. There are many ways folklore can be communicated. I think the best way is in music. Everyone can relate was music. They do say that music is the universal language. We might get some insight on folklore in school, but we really learn these folklore from each other according to Sims. I like the example of sending the chain email to all the people on your address book. As a kid I would send the chain message to everyone because I was scared of the outcome if I didn’t send it. However as I grew up I’ve noticed that these chain mails aren’t true and there isn’t going to be any bad outcome if I don’t send it out. There might still be people who believe in the chain message and still send them out. All these folklore are going to be kept alive because of the people that keep on tell them.

Have you ever research on the internet for recipes, song lyrics or directions? Have you ever consider this being research? Well, it is research; we all do research daily for different type of reason. All of us have being doing research since elementary school, even sooner as day care. There's all type of research. The most important one for me is academic research. Once having master how to write a prefect research paper, I’m sure it's going to be easier to approach any research in other fields.  When doing research the end goal is to learn something new or just have more knowledge on something one had prior knowledge on. It doesn't hurt to learn something new. Through writing a research paper. One learns other things as well like the importance of sources. One has to be careful on the type of sources it uses to back up their information on a paper. Some sources are reliable and useful but, other sources can be written by my 10-year-old brother. Research is a very important thing to learn and master.

I enjoyed reading "Aesop, Aristotle, and  Animals: The role of fables in Human life" by Edward Clayton.  At first I didn't understand the reading, so I read it more than once and it started making sence. There's a comparison between animals and human. The first example about the wolf and lamb has a meaning of power. The wolf is a bestial animals and compared to a lamb it's no where as powerful.  The lamb is like the slaves, women, and the poor. However the wolf are like men. The wolf knows it powerful so it can abuse its power. The fables have a reference to animals. They make them come to life and have a voice. This was done to make it easier for people to read these fables. All these fables have a deeper meaning and it shouldn't be taking for face value. The in the fable "The Fox and the Mask" I really didn't understand the meaning behind it. However I think it might be referring to the fox and him hiding something. Also he found the beautiful mask but no brain. So I think it might be like beauty and brains. There's people who have beauty but no brains at all.
